Back to School Letter

September 2016
Mrs. Traino

Welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts

In this class we will learn reading and writing strategies to help make you a better reader and writer in all of your classes. We will read a variety of short stories, novels, poetry selections, and non-fiction selections.

You will be expected to write your homework in your agenda on a daily basis. Students and parents may also log onto my teacher web page [email protected] to check daily assignments. Students will also use IXL, an online learning management system to participate in various online assignments. Students are expected to turn in assignments on time, completed and neatly done. Students who fail to do so will receive reduced credit or may be asked to redo an assignment.

Grades will be determined based on student performance in the following categories: Performance tasks (Reading selection tests and quizzes, final writing products, etc.), IXL assignments, Class work, and Homework. Grades are typically updated weekly and students are encouraged to check them online on our Parent Portal system.

Students are expected to follow basic rules of behavior, such as being respectful, being prepared, and being on time. If you do not follow these basic rules, a warning will be given. If your behavior does not improve, you may be issued a detention, a timeout in another classroom, a letter or phone call home, or in an extreme situation, a referral to the vice principal.

I look forward to working with you this school year! I hope that together we can make this one of your most enjoyable and successful years in Language Arts so far!
